- CLEANS WHERE YOU TELL IT TO CLEAN. Use the iRobot Home App or pair your robot with Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant-enabled devices*. Simply tell it to clean the living room or by the dishwasher, oven or stove, toilet, even pet bowls, and you’ve got a cleaner home on command. *Works with Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant-enabled devices. I previously had a separate vacuum and mop setup that needed to be serviced constantly, re-filling the mop reservoir, cleaning the mop head, emptying the vacuum, and plenty of other headaches. This version of the robot was a massive upgrade and 100% worth it in my opinion to be able to “set and forget” especially when I am out of town.
After a painless setup to connect to WiFi and update firmware, it quickly mapped my home and got surprisingly close on room divisions, which were easy to tweak and then set up a normal cleaning schedule. I also enjoy the zone cleaning functions, like cleaning just an area in front of the oven instead of the whole kitchen.

My experiences with a previous model Roomba combination vacuum and mop model were mixed, and while I was willing to accept some imperfections in exchange for the convenience, it got to be a lot, and I effectively stopped using it and reverted to an older vacuum only model that I thought had been permanently retired to use upstairs. This Roomba Combo 10 Max Vacuum and Mop with AutoWash Dock represents a number of significant improvements, and so far, I don’t have any reason to stop using it. Navigation seems to have returned to a better level of smoothness that somehow got lost with the previous version, and beyond some bumping around during training there’s much less hard bumping into things during navigation. Cleaning into corners isn’t perfect but has definitely improved. Mopping routines are handling dirt and grime much better, with more passes in different directions rather than just rolling away. The mop lifter mechanism seems smoother and also seems to engage in a more timely fashion, which has greatly improved my issues with water getting from areas with hard surfaces to areas with carpeting. Speaking of navigational smoothness regaining previously lost improvements, this model seems to also be much better at getting back to its dock. Charge time is essentially the same, as I expected it to be. So far, I haven’t had any dust sensor issues triggering the filter alerts, but those have always been a thing with Roombas, so I won’t be surprised if they happen.
The mop pad washing function does a really decent job, and the unit does a really good job at conserving cleaning solution considering all it does, to be able to go for almost a week at a time on the clean tank. I am pretty rigid on emptying the dirty tank every day that I run the unit, as the idea of that water sitting doesn’t thrill me, and I wouldn’t want anything to grow stuff that could block up the works or cause errors. Mop washing does have a little volume to it, but it’s still a lot quieter than running a manual vacuum, so I have no complaints there. The room mapping functionality is significantly improved with this model. The claims made are pretty close to what my experience was, and whatever AI is involved in making determinations in what a room is and the elements in a room, that’s all pretty impressive. Obstacle detection seems a little smoother, but it does still get fooled sometimes. Most of all, it does still need good illumination in order to navigate and do its detection stuff successfully. A smart speaker skill that turns on all the lights when I tell it to activate the Roomba does the trick though, and even the cat has learned that when all the lights turn on all at once, it’s probably best to run upstairs.
All in all, the Combo 10 Max model seems, so far, to be delivering on its promises in a way that previous combo units seemed to often fall short on. I’m very happy with the performance of this model, and I look forward to seeing how its programmed abilities will improve in the future.

Opened up the box and started to set it up, when I noticed it’s missing a spin brush and the screw that holds it in. Came with an extra one but can’t install it without the screw.

(Review by my husband, for whom I bought it).
DISCLOSURES: Nobody gave me anything to review this. I have an IT background and am a UX dweeb (I have a website devoted to the usability of medical software). I am an early adopter, and have had Roombas since the first one. The first one was mostly a technology demonstration (cool toy) but having to put 2x4s on the rug fringes meant it saved absolutely no work.
MOBILE APP: Four stars. The app is updated to work with combo Roombas, very nicely, in fact. And the animated Roomba at the top of the screen, that used to take up half the screen, now only takes up a third. It still uses hundreds of pixels to provide one bit of information. As Alan Cooper wrote in 1995 in “About Face: the Essentials of User Interface Design”: “No matter how cool your interface, less of it would be better.” And the animation distracts you from the REAL information below.
SETUP AND INSTRUCTIONS: Three stars. Unlike previous docks, this has a separate lip that needs to be attached. Even though it’s pretty obvious where it goes, it would be nice if there were a little note on it saying “attach this to the dock before inserting Roomba.” The way I unboxed it the instruction to attach it came AFTER the instruction to insert Roomba. It would be nice for the instructions to have said, “Unlike previous Roombas that go into the dock nose-first, this Roomba goes in butt first.” It took me 10-15 minutes to figure why it wouldn’t charge when I put it in nose-first.
MAPPING: Five stars. I tried importing my old J7+ map, and that has Roomba vacuuming the wrong room and wandering all over the place. I contemplated calling tech support, but given I’ve done tech support a long time ago, I know that they would just tall me “reboot your computer,” or the equivalent for a Roomba, which is “delete your map and do a mapping run.” After I did that, which took an hour or two, the new map was considerably better than my old one. And, with my old one, I had contributed my “is this an obstacle” pictures to the database, so there was very little of that with this new Roomba. (My old map had an imaginary corridor off my bedroom from “New Space Found!” which I had divided off as a new room named “Nowhere” which should have been a clue I needed to make a new map.
NOISE: Five stars. Compared with our late, lamented J7+ (died after encountering cat diarrhea), it’s only about half as loud vacuuming, and emptying in the dock is only about half as loud. Still pretty loud, but not nearly as obnoxious.
MOPPING: Four stars. Unlike our late, lamented Scooba, none of the iRobot “mopping” robots actually mop, they just wet-swiffer. On the other hand, Scooba and Braava had issues with our 9″ square, handmade, 1/4″ deep grout line Mexican clay Saltillo tiles. Braava simply couldn’t handle it and I ended up giving it away to someone who had flat floors without thick grout lines who could actually use it. Scooba Combo 10 does a great job of wet-swiffering even our Saltillo tiles, including extra scrubbing where needed. Except that it can only swiffer where it can fit. So, areas of tile or wood floor between rugs, or between a rug and the wall, don’t get swiffered. I throw the rugs from our Saltillo-tile bathroom into the shower, and then asked Scooba 10 to now mop the bathroom it had previously mapped. It dutifully mopped the areas that had not been covered with rugs, but then just sat there and stared at the areas that had been covered with rugs and said, “My programming won’t allow me to mop there, sorry.” So even the areas between the rugs and between the rugs and the wall didn’t get swiffered. This is a software issue that can and should be fixed. (“Mop with rugs removed.”)

For the past three years, I’ve used a Roborock S7 mop/vacuum combo ($300) that worked perfectly in my house. I decided to upgrade to the Roomba 10 because I wanted an auto dock. I’ve had the unit for 3 days now and have had to reboot the device 30+ times. I’ve spent a combined 3 hours with product support troubleshooting the device. The app is horrible and requires you to close it out consistently to get updates. I decided that I wanted to send it in for a replacement. Amazon doesn’t offer replacements, only returns. It also takes up to 30 days for a refund once they receive the product. Exceptionally poor product and even worse customer service.
