Carbon Brushes are either not easy or possible to replace. They also tend to turn at much higher RPM significantly shortening service life. Thru-flow motors are predominantly used for portable vacuums and have much smaller carbon brushes and hence shorter life.

Prior to purchasing a central vacuum, I combed the internet for vacuum tests, and recommendations. I found that Allegro was consistently recommended.
Then I checked Amazon for recommendations and again Allegro was highly recommended.
We live in a log home with cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors and Persian carpets. I wanted to assure we purchased the correct vacuum and attachments to clean log walls and our floors. I called Allegro’s toll free number and over a period of weeks chatted with Nora, she is an amazing and knowledgeable resource on central vacuums.
Nora recommended the Allegro MUA50 Champion power unit. However, I desired more power and unilaterally decided to upgrade to the Allegro DA Vinci MU5800 power unit.
Nora laughingly opined that I was upgrading from their Mercedes-Benz power unit to the Porsche power unit. Additionally, to clean our walls and floors she recommend and we purchased their Deluxe Hardwood Floor Nozzle Hose and Attachment Set, Hardwood Floor Nozzle – Carpet Add-on, Hardwood Dust Mop, Extension Wand Set and Elongated Dusting Brush.
An added incentive to call Nora, she offered identical pricing to the prices listed at Amazon.
Installation was a snap, i.e. mount the power unit on the wall, attach the 2 inch PVC vacuum pipe to the unit, connect the low-voltage wire to the unit, install the muffler and plug the power unit into a wall electrical receptacle. Connect the vacuum hose and you are good to go.
We love the dust mop attached to the four packs of extension wands which allow us to stand on a stepladder and vacuum logs all the way to the peak of our cathedral ceilings. The unit vacuums our logs, floors and rugs perfectly much better than any other vacuum we had used previously.
However, I made a mistake, I ordered a 30 Foot Orange Basic Garage Kit, ZAS051-OR. It takes care of our garaged vehicles. However, we own a motorhome and soon found that I could not reach its total interior.
I am going to buy the 50 foot hose, ZAS051-OR-50.
Bottom line consider all you cleaning needs particularly those that are unable to fit in your garage and size your hose accordingly.
