To be honest, when we first ordered this product, I didn’t have high expectations. That opinion was based solely on the first robot vacuum we purchased (EUFY) about 7 years ago. It was just the basic vacuum and performed pretty badly. The slightest obstacle would confuse it or cause it to get hung up. We basically stopped using it after the first few months.
With this Roborock, it’s a whole new ballgame!! It was easy to unpack and setup. Then, I performed the Quick Mapping to allow it to identify each room. I did need to use the “divide” feature to break up some large areas found during the mapping process. After that, I named the rooms, added some furniture and identified the floor types.
It completed the vacuuming process for all the rooms flawlessly in the house without a single issue. This initial vacuuming phase is where it fine tunes each room layout from the Quick Mapping stage. The only thing I did during the first vacuuming phase was use my foot to keep it from going under a dresser or bed, which it remembers during subsequent vacuuming sessions. While watching, during the initial vacuuming, I was amazed at how well it navigating around areas. It would hug as close as possible to all edges, doing a fantastic job cleaning all the floors. I also liked how the vacuum would go into a more powerful mode when it transitioned from hard floor to carpet and then slow down once it was back on tile.
The key feature we were looking for in this new vacuum is it traveling back and forth across the floor in straight pattern. This is much more efficient that the EUFY that just zig zagged all over the place, repeating across numerous paths. The Roborock will travel around the edge of a room and then go back and forth across the rest of the room. I realize I’m old and retired, but I have to admit, it was quite fun watching it do such a great job.
IT ALSO WORKS WELL WITH ALEXA, SO THAT IS ANOTHER PLUS!!
Needless to say, we are VERY please and give it the highest possible score!! The only feature left to test is mopping, so we’ll update our review to include that. Best money we’ve spent in a long time.

If loving this Roborock is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I think this is the second review that I have ever written in my life about anything, and I am 53, but I just had to do it. I hope this gives some validity to my review. LOL. Since I first saw this type of product, I have always wanted one, but I always hesitated. I finally broke down and bought it. I am not a messy person, but I tend to delay the vacuuming and mopping. First, I want to say that it is very easy to do the setup. I saw a few previous consumer comments about it not connecting with Google home. That is not true. After you install the roborock app, then you just have to go to your Google home app, select the plus sign to add a device, select the option “set up device”, select the option “works with Google home”, and then scroll forever until you get to the roborock app. Then the device is added. You can rename it if you want to do so. I named mine “David Wallace” because I am a fan of The Office, and he has the invention that “sucks”, and also the song that he and his son sings “suck it”. So I just have to say, “hey google, have David Wallace clean my house”, and she says,”ok.starting David Wallace.” I am amazed everyday. The first time that I used it, I was a little bit frustrated and confused. Even though I had read other reviews that this would happen, I still thought it would go smoothly the first time for some reason. It ran around the house like a crazy robot. It was really just mapping out the house like it was supposed to do. The second time was a thousand times better, and after the third time it’s been nothing but bliss. Yes, the bin is not that big compared to some other reviews that I have read, and it filled up pretty quickly the first and second time. I did not do any prep beforehand, so I guess that was expected. Ever since, I’ve been running it at least every other day, and it doesn’t fill up so quickly, and I don’t have to empty it every time… about ever third time. As for the mopping capability, it is not the same as a person scrubbing the floor. I tend to use the mop mode about every second time that I vacuum. I get that it is just a pad with some water running around my house, but if you continually do it, it’s the same as continually vacuuming. You just have to rinse out the mop pad, which shows some dirt, which means it’s working. I was surprised that it actually talks. I didn’t realize that it had a voice. It will say that it is starting, and it tells you that it’s heading back to the dock. I was just surprised when it started talking back to me. Loved it! I have a cat, and I thought she was going to attack the thing at first, but I think she has gotten used to it, and she hasn’t damaged it at all. She more or less just follows it everywhere. The app is super cool to watch as it goes through your house. It might just be covid-19 and boredom, but I think I watched it for the first few times the entire time it went around my house. It takes about 43 minutes to do my first floor. I just have a normal size two story house. I haven’t tried the upstairs yet, but that is on my list. The charging capacity is awesome! I have never even come close to the battery running low. The mop water capacity is also absolutely fine. I actually use bottled water just because my water is terrible in my neighborhood even with my water softener. I do want to say that I have a multicolored area rug that it doesn’t like at all. I read a similar review about this. My rug is black, gray, and white with swirls. It gets confused on the black areas. I think it thinks that it is a void or some type of drop-off, which makes it not fall down the stairs, but it doesn’t recognize the black. I just blocked that part out as a no-go zone in the app (super cool and super easy to set up no-vacuum zones and no -mop zones. It’s also easy super easy to just have it mop or vacuum a particular zone.). Although that is not ideal, I think it is completely amazing how accurate the laser is . It will literally go on the white and gray swirls and stop and turn around when it gets to the black part. It is some major precision ! I literally have nothing terrible at all to say about this product. I can’t believe I waited this long to get one. I have told every single family member and friend about how awesome it is. I don’t know anyone else who has a robovac, so I can only speak to this one and my own experience. But I highly recommend it! It also helps me keep my shoes out of the middle of the floor. It will go around my shoes, but the point is it helps me keep the rest of my house tidy so David Wallace can do his job! I hope I didn’t ramble too much 😉

The Roborock S5 is my first robot vacuum, and I’m very happy with the results. The vacuum is great at picking up cat hair and litter, which is a daily battle in the home. Very satisfied with my purchase.

I was looking for a robot that can really vacuum and mop well, and thought that is not possible. I had a Neato XV Signature Pro that vacuums well, and thought that could not be surpassed. I was wrong. Roborock S5 Max could do either or both vacuuming and mopping very well. The other features that one can use from the App is wonderful too. Bought a unit for my parents and might buy one for my in-laws. “The Rock” is now our BFF!
