Wow-cannot believe I went so long without a good vacuum cleaner. This thing is an absolute UNIT. Yes, it’s a little heavy. But it has POWER.
I have a cat and I also have long hair. Between the two of us, we generate a lot of shed hair, straight into the carpet. This is the first vacuum cleaner that sucked up all our hair without clogging and stopping (I even broke a vacuum one time, snapped clean in half-girl’s got thick hair, what can I say?). I did have to clean off the layer of hair that got wrapped around the bottom brush but to the vacuum’s credit, it was still picking things up while covered with hair!
I had no trouble putting it together, and didn’t notice any issues with it being refurbished. The kickstand works fine as long as you set it correctly, but it’s finicky-my cat rubbed against it while it was standing before I could put it away and it toppled over.
I vacuum weekly, and had my carpets steam cleaned a few weeks ago. Despite that, I could not believe how much dust this monster managed to pull out of the carpets on its first pass. This was for sure a good purchase.

Was not sure about this one, but I am more than happy with it. Looks brand new, never used. Got an excellent deal and fast shipping!

Amazing performance from this vacuum, even refurbished, it’s much better than anything else I’ve used & the engineering is high quality. Highly recommended.

Needed a better vacuum for getting pet hair out of the carpets and up off of the floors and furniture in the house. The refurb unit is a great value money wise and an absolute beast when it come to suction power.
My unit was refurbished by Dyson. Read the instructions and turn OFF the brush bar when vacuuming bare floors and throw rugs. If you have ANY loose strands showing on your carpet or rugs you should trim them off before vacuuming or it may suck them up into the machine and make the problem worse.
This machine only has a light hazing of the dirt chamber showing it was used but the rest of the unit looks like new, all new filters but you could smell a bit of the “old” dirt when you first fire it up or disassemble the unit for inspection. Not bad just noticeable.
Works fantastic, really super vacuum, thanks Dyson
Daily Grind –
The vacuum we received was damaged (cracked/chipped on the top of the canister) and appeared to be well-worn and not anywhere like new. It was difficult to lock into the upright position and felt ‘clunky’ when you have it assembled, even when you tried to maneuver it into making a turn. It all felt a bit ‘off’ and not smooth, we suspect it just had a hard life before since we have bought Dyson refurbished before and we did not have the same issue. We bought two of these refurbished and one was fine; this was supposed to be a gift, though we decided to return it and not pursue another one. As stated, the first one we bought we are keeping and we are happy with; not sure how this recent one passed inspection with a chipped canister cover and the overall quality of the product was lacking.

This is a very powerful vacuum and it does NOT expel as much dust as it takes in…in fact none!!
It is interesting to assemble. The handle goes down into the expandable intake tube when used as a standup. The assemble instructions do not make that clear. As I worked with the parts it suddenly seem obvious that is how it had to fit it was the only place it could go and have the top handle bit fit!!
We have cats and the ‘bin’ needs to me emptied after a single use in about 1800 sq feet. NO complains it picks up that well.
Keep the instructions handy for a complete disassemble for cleaning. Very clever and effective engineering in this device. With much respect Sir James Dyson OM CBE FRS FREng is brilliant engineer.

Before I ordered this product, I read all of the reviews. I was somewhat concerned about folks saying it was hard to assemble. Truth be told, it’s incredibly easy to assemble with about 4 steps and no tools required. Some other folks complained about the weight. Although it is on the heavy side, the power and maneuverability more than make up for it.
As for the actual operation, it’s truly amazing. The “auto adjust” feature makes it painless to go from hardwood to carpeted floors. The maneuvering takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never go back to a regular vacuum. And the suction is out of this world.

Vacuum worked great for about 18 months. Stellar cleaning power and very maneuverable. We have 1 Golden Retriever and 3 cats, and thought this would be the hot ticket (e.g., “Animal” is in the name!) This did a great job picking up all the pet hair for 1.5 years.
Now to the bad: this thing is just not designed to last. I just had to order a replacement roller brush for $50 because the bushings at either side failed (massive play and vibration). Upon disassembling the suction head, I found tons of hair and dust compacted into the joint of every rotating assembly = excessive stress/friction = premature failure. There is zero attempt to seal the mating sections that spin to guard against hair/dust intrusion. Beyond that, the bushing that failed on the roller brush is plastic, and shredded/melted (note there was massive clumps of hair in front of, inside, and behind what was left of the bushing. I have nothing against plastics, but this clearly is not the right polymer for the job on this rotating joint.
I get it: nothing lasts forever. You can expect to do Preventative Maintenance or repairs on components, but at this price point, I expected more: either Dyson selling just the bushing as a wear item, or Dyson designing a better bushing (brass or higher grade plastic). My anecdotal experience with vacuums has never been to replace bushings after so little use (around 80 hours). Heck, my backup budget Hoover I bought from a department store in 2014 hasn’t required any repairs yet, and that has about 4x the hours than my Dyson.
TL;DR I will not be purchasing another Dyson.
