For over two decades, I have owned robotic vacuum cleaners. It of course started with the Roomba which at the time was more of a novelty than anything truly useful but after my first one, I got another and another until they were pretty good. They still had issues but they were going the right direction. Over a decade ago, I gave up on Roomba as they were really expensive and lacked any kind of modern features such as mapping which I was able to find in much less expensive units. Since then, I have owned a few others by different manufacturers. They were better but none of them was perfect until now. The X40 is perfect.
Everything that had been missing in my cleaning needs is now finally found in the X40. Most importantly of all is that it doesn’t just have the features that I want, it works flawlessly. At first it’s almost overwhelming how much it can do and all of the available options for running it the way that I want to. But in no time at all, I have it set up to work exactly as I want it to. It goes where I want it to, it stays out of where I don’t want it and the AI keeps everything working perfectly when things change daily in my house.
I have some deep pile area rugs that some of my previous robot vacuums could not deal with. Either they couldn’t get up onto the rugs or they couldn’t move once they were on them. Some of the other vacuums would see the dark patterns as “cliffs” and they would refuse to move over the patterns with the only solution being to tape over the sensor. The X40 handles my area rugs like it was designed to do so. I have had none of these problems with the X40. I did notice that the height of one of my rugs was being seen by the AI as something in front of my rug and it attempted to go around but that was easily managed by using the map editing. I thought that all I would have to do was to tell it that it was a rug but the actual solution was to mark the edge of the rug as a “curtain” which tells the robot to ignore the visual obstruction and push on through. This worked perfectly and no other robot was able to get onto this area rug. Fantastic! Now all of my rugs are being vacuumed. Which brings me to the suction of the X40, it cleans my deep pile rugs all the way through. I have to admit, I am amazed. I have chosen to leave the mops behind when I do my rugs as a precaution and I am thrilled that I have that option. As far as mopping goes, this thing is absolutely perfect. It gets under my kitchen cabinets where other vacuums could not because of the overhang of the cabinets.
I really love the X40 and I am so happy to finally find a robot vacuum that does everything!

Background: I currently have a large Siberian Masquerade cat (extremely fluffy and consistently sheds its white hair) and also a new mom to a 6 month old baby. I would sweep, mop, and vacuum throughout the day and each night before bed, to try and maintain a relatively clean floor, but it seemed dooming as the floors hardly ever felt truly clean. I did find that the Swiffer Heavy Duty Dry Cloths worked great in collecting dirt and hair on the harwood, but they are designed for 1-time-use, so they can become expensive and wasteful. I also tried using the washable cloth attachments, but found it felt like I was just “evenly distributing” the dirt around, rather than getting a true clean feeling. I also tried multiple vacuum cleaners, and none collected all my cat’s hair. I had resorted to using a small shop vac to be able to suction all the cat hair out of the carpet, but it was extremely time consuming and laboring.
I originally purchased the X30 Dreame, to save some extra money. I found it worked exceptionally well, but it would leave some cat hair behind on the carpet and wasn’t able to clean corners and would leave roughly a 2-3 inch gap from the baseboards… so I decided to upgrade to the X40, as all the upgrades seemed to be exactly what I would have recommended for the X30.
Product review: The X40 Dreame has been a complete GAME CHANGER! I will set the X40 to “deep clean” each time I leave the house, and I arrive back to SPOTLESS floors, even the cat hair is GONE! Throughout the day I spot clean areas or individual rooms, as needed.
I would consider this X40 an investment, but SO worth it. It is so refreshing to have the additional time throughout the day, and the cleanest floors I’ve ever been able to maintain.
The SideReach technology on the X40 is worth the extra money in itself, from the X30, in my opinion. The bristle extension cleans those hard to reach areas, and truly makes a difference in the appearance of your floors. The extra suction was also necessary for me, in order to collect ALL the cat hair in the carpet. Some additional upgrades I wasn’t expecting is a better app presentation, although the X30 app does work perfectly fine, the X40 is a cleaner looking app layout. I found the cleaning solution actually smells better too when pouring it in the tank, like fresh laundry, although I cannot smell the solution while it’s cleaning.
10/10 recommend the X40 Dreame, as an excellent investment piece to replace ALL your floor cleaning products!
