I’ve had several of these units over the years. Both this dark-grey-handled model (HNVC220BCZ01) and the white-handled model (HNVC215B10) look identical except for the handle color. They both come with the exact same instruction manual, which literally has the two model numbers HNVC215B and HNVC220B written on the cover. Other than the model numbers on the cover, there is no information in the manual that is specific to one or the other. Neither are mentioned in the manual, and any reference to power, battery, or energy is completely absent.
So maybe power is the difference, or maybe it isn’t. I couldn’t find a clear difference on here, the manufacturer’s website, or even in communication with B+D directly.
Here’s what I found out:
– The vacuum part (plastic handle with motor inside) of my copies of the HNVC215B and HNVC220B weigh exactly the same: 508 grams.
– Both vacuum parts of my USA copies of the HNVC215B and HNVC220B are made in Vietnam. I’m guessing the following info means that the 215 uses less power or has a lower capacity battery, but doesn’t mean it’s less efficient or older. Could be a more energy efficient unit for all I know:
– this model (HNVC220B) = Type 1 8V Max DC ⎓ 16 Wh 2.0 Ah
– the other (HNVC215B) = Type 1 8V Max DC ⎓ 12Wh 1.5 Ah
– My HNVC215B and HNVC220B came with identically looking and rated power adapters. Model no. SSC-080015US (should one end with 20US?) Class 2 power supplies with outputs of 8.2V ⎓ 150mA. All the other little codes and stuff on the bricks are the same except one is Made in China with a P/N: N598005 while the other is Made in Vietnam with no P/N. I have no idea which came with which now. They both work exactly the same with each handle and I’ve had no issues charging either.
– Both units come with identical dust bowls that are interchangeable
– Both use the exact same washable, yet replaceable filters: HNVCF10. These are horrible filters that are impossible to truly clean. They’re not like other kinds I’ve used that I can lightly brush with a hair brush under running water. They start shredding immediately. Terrible. Get the cheapest replacement filters you can they’re all bad.
– The crevice tools they come with look the same (one is light grey one is dark grey) but I don’t think they’re interchangeable. I’m not sure, but I think one is sized slightly different, which doesn’t make sense but is my experience. For example, I had no issues removing and re-attaching the crevice tool from my old 220. But I think I tried to insert my new 220’s crevice tool into the 215, and vice versa, b/c now the part that came with the 215 won’t come out of whatever dust bowl it’s in (they look identical), and yet the 220’s crevice tool comes out of it’s dust bowl way too easy. Like when I’m using it. So I think there’s a difference there. But again, the dust bowls themselves look identical. The crevice tools are different shades of grey.
– The little brush attachments look identical, but same issue as with the dust bowl, they seem to not be a perfect fit with each crevice tool. So maybe it’s really just the crevice tool (only parts that look different in shades of grey) that screw up the interchangeability.
So that’s about it. If I get one again whatever’s cheaper or uses less power, I guess. I will say that B+W customer service was excellent in resolving an issue under the two-year warranty, no hassle whatsoever. I needed a replacement dust bowl and they don’t sell that part so they just sent me a whole new unit. So now I have bunch of kinda/not really interchangeable dustbuster parts in a bag in the closet 🙂

Bought this for clean-ups after my granddaughter who’s crawling. I bought this with the low expectations I admit. It kind of surprised me. With that said, it works GREAT on hardwood floors, fair to good on my heavy carpet over my hardwood floor. Here is what you should know. This dust buster washable filter must be washed after every use (To me no biggie) in heavy dust areas its suction gets weaker.
Did it meet my expectations, yes, simple, easy to clean and 10-minute job it does the job.

Overall this was a solid purchase for the price. Pickup power has been good. Battery life has been sufficient for all my modest needs. Filters are easy to change and aftermarket multi-packs are available here on Amazon.
Three serious nits.
First, the design of the charging cradle is flimsy and annoying to use. The charging contacts of the vacuum are on the underside by the hand grip, so I find myself switching hands to grab the unit by the nose to set it down. I rarely hit the contacts on the first try. There’s very little in the shapes of the cradle or vacuum to guide the charging post into the charging slot.
Second, it is difficult and unpleasant to clean the front part of the nose container, due to the very sharp angles parallel to the tube running from the nose to the back, near the filter and blower. Wet materials and especially fine dusts will get stuck down there, and simply swishing with water won’t get them out. I’ve resorted to digging around toward the nose with a butter knife, but that’s a pain, stuff remains stuck down there, and I can see it from the outside through the translucent plastic.
Finally, while the filter unit it came with is washable, I’ve repeatedly had trouble with it losing air seal after cleaning. This can lead to finer dirt and dust blowing past and out the back of the unit after a cleaning.
Overall a very useful product for an approachable price. I’m glad I have mine, though the little flaws will surely keep bugging me.

When I bought this item, my wife called it another “toy”. Now, she has found it is most essential in cleaning up the small messes!
