I guess I was naïve to think this 40-watt leaf blower would be the same as the B &D 40 watt one I’m replacing. The old model had six power settings, with the high being able to do serious work. The new model has one setting, and it’s fairly weak. The old model had a 24-inch tube, while the new one has an 18-inch tube, meaning unless you are short, you will have to stoop to move any debris. The old model would run for 20 minutes or more nonstop, while this model has less run time. On the plus side, the new model is very light weight, similar to a child’s toy. I have several B&D battery tools and like all of them, but I’m less fond of this one. Perhaps others may enjoy this particular tool more than I do.

Bought it to sweep the 4 car driveway. It is so lightweight, a child can use it. It has a good battery, which comes with a small charger(smaller than one that came with the trimmer, but charge time is not significantly longer). Battery and charger both interchangeable with other B&D products- weed trimmer, drill.
It is not as powerful as the gas trimmer(which is to be expected), it’s also not as powerful as Milwaukee sweeper(Milwaukee comes with much smaller battery though). It does a decent job sweeping the driveway, including mountain of maple leaves and small branch pieces, but it takes a little time. I had some leftover gravel in the pile, and it would move the little rocks as well.
You have to hold it at the right angle, to have it work most efficiently.
Great for keeping driveway clean. Especially for anybody with joint or muscle problems.

This is the 3rd Black & Decker product I have purchased. They all use the same size battery. I love the convenience of that. This leaf blower is very powerful yet lightweight to use. It gets the job done. I would recommend it. Good product.

I live in Michigan and two things are certain here….there will be a lot of leaves in the fall and a lot of snow in the winter. After extensive research, I ordered this product because it was compatible with the 40V battery for my Black & Decker string trimmer and appeared that it would be effective and getting leaves out of the garage and clearing light snow dustings from the driveway.
I have OCD tendencies and like my garage floor to be clean so I spend a lot of time sweeping the garage floor when the leaves blow in. This sweeper is excellent at blowing the leaves out of the garage and it takes a fraction of the time to blow out the leaves versus sweeping. The power is more then sufficient to blow leaves on a hard surface like a garage floor, driveway or patio.
Those same OCD tendencies occur in the winter and I like my driveway and sidewalks clear. I wanted something to blow off the snow when it isn’t enough to shovel or snowblow. This works perfect for clearing snowfall less than one inch of dry snow from the driveway and is much quicker and more effective than shoveling.
Make sure you are ordering this for the right purpose. This is a sweeper and not a blower. Don’t expect to clear the yard from leaves or blow any heavy objects. It is great to blow off hard surfaces but you will be disappointed if you are trying to clear a yard full of leaves. The battery life is excellent and can easily last 30+ minutes of continuous use. It is also compatible with other 40V batteries from B&D. Another observation is this sweeper is small and lightweight; It measures 34″ from end to end and is light as a feather. Despite the small size it delivers a good deal of wind to get the job done.
I am100% satisfied with the product because I didn’t have unrealistic expectations to blow my entire yard of leaves. It gets the job done as a sweeper, it’s quiet, it’s lightweight, and the battery delivers great power. You also don’t have to smell like gas afterwards like a traditional blower.

We’ve been using our Black and Decker LSW40C cordless blower for about 2 years now and it has been a great tool.
We live on a wooded lot with lots of oaks, walnuts, hickories, black cherries, and other “dirty” trees. I mean dirty in the sense that they drop a LOT of stuff on the lawn, roof, sidewalk, and deck that needs to be cleaned up. The LSW40C has been a great help keeping the hard flat surfaces clean of the tree detritus instead of manually sweeping. It will quickly clear the open flat surfaces clear of leaves and twigs even whole walnuts and small branches much quicker and with less effort then using a broom.
However, this blower is not very good at blowing leaves or moving stuff that you would normally need a rake for. That’s an important distinction to make when deciding whether or not to buy this unit. It makes a really effective broom but if what you’re looking for is a rake then it’s not for you.
I think a lot of negative reviewers may not realize this and may have bought the wrong thing to save money or by not doing research. In general the most powerful blowers are the gas powered backpack units. They are good for clearing lawns of large piles of leaves. The next most powerful are the corded electric units. These also are like brooms also but are more powerful then cordless units and can clear larger areas and be used for much longer then cordless. The least powerful are the cordless blowers. These are useful for replacing brooms to clear sidewalks, decks, porches, garage floors, etc.
In summary, if your looking for something to clean debris from small hard surfaces quicker and easier then a broom, this unit does a good job and is the least expensive of the name brand blowers.

I just got this today, June 19, 2019, and blew out my 2-car garage, deck and small section of driveway. Anything loose was blown away easily. It was kinda fun really! It worked just fine for those purposes…like a power broom.
The good:
It does what it claims.
It’s lightweight and very easy to handle.
No gas emissions….smaller carbon footprint.
It’s CORDLESS (Woohoo!) I always hated hunting down and untangling a long extension cord, having it come unplugged in the middle of a job, having to crawl behind the shrubbery to get to the receptacle and having to coil it up afterwards….this eliminates those issues!
The less good:
It really isn’t as powerful as I would expect a 40V tool to be. I also have a B&D weed whacker and it FEELS like a 40V tool…very powerful.
As many others have mentioned, it does not do well with leaves on the lawn (maybe a light scattering of dry ones) or grass that was damp and pressed to the driveway by car tires..ahem.
I gave it 5 stars because it’s absolutely fine for lighter duty jobs and not intended to be compared to gas or 110V blowers. Buy with confidence if you want something that works a lot better/faster than a broom.
