The cost is reasonable for the complete assembly. I was considering replacing the brushes only however, the complete assembly is assembled, new bearings, new brushes, end caps etc. For another 9.00 buy the assembly and get back to sweeping ….time is money. 🙂

My old Sanitaire vac began to chew through belts quite rapidly. On examination the roller was quite stiff and difficult to turn, and the plain metal bearings at the end were quite hot. Removal of the origianl brush roller (beater bar) showed that the metal end caps had quite a bit of wobble at the end. When installed and the pressure of the belt put on them they were clearly binding. My analysis is that the plain metal bearings in the end cap were pretty worn out, lubrication won’t fix that. These end caps are available for purchase and cost about $5-6 apiece. I needed both of them, and since this was years old decided to replace the whole assembly, and suggest you do also if this happens to you.
The replacement wooden roller is available as well (EK203), but I elected to go with this sanitaire metal beater bar. The main reason is that the metal bar has replaceable brush strips as well as sealed roller bearings. All things being equal this ought to extend the life of the part for me. I do see that several people have fracture of the metal roller and I suspect this may be due to impact damage from picking up things like bolts and screws. Wood does have better impact absorption and you might want to consider that when picking the wooden part to replace your beater bar. Or it could be a manufacturing defect on the ones they received, I have not examined any of them. Additionally, plain metal bearings and the wood in the roller tend to make this item slightly quieter than the metal version with the sealed bearings. To my old ears the change was pretty slight however.
Most of the Eureka/Sanitaire 12 inch vacs use this beater bar, IF they are the ones that use the round belt which is offset off center. In 2018 I replaced one in another vac with this beater bar and it is still working fine. Flip you vac over and look at the bottom to see the model number. Look up the model number and do a search to see what beater bar fits. This is a good value and in my experience replaces the wooden roller model just fine. I have also replaced the commercial brushroll, Sanitaire 12″ Hex End W/Ball Bearings #53272, with this item and found it works well in that application.
For the price this is a genuine Sanitaire/Eureka part and I trust that a lot more than the off brands that are all priced higher.

After 30 plus years my Eureka 1425 stopped. I changed the broken belt and within minutes the replacement belt broke. I checked the roller and decided it was binding up as it turned and therefore contributed to the belt breaking. The original wooden roller was hard to find at first. I needed belts so I checked for belts on Amazon. They were reasonably priced and one of the items often ordered with them was this roller. I checked to see if it would fit my vacuum. Nothing confirmed that it would but after more checking of parts for the Eureka and its commercial version Sanitaire I found the the design was the same but the materials for their construction was different. Wood for residential Eureaka model 1425 and metal for the commercial Sanitaire model. So I ordered his roller. Installed it with the new belt and it fit perfect and does an great job. Now if I can get another 30 years out of my vacuum I will be very happy.

I purchased this roller to fix a custodian’s vacuum quickly while I ordered the originals through purchasing. So far, it’s doing the job. It fits and works well, but it felt light and flimsy. It is a great option to get up and go quickly, but I have not tested the durability since the roller was recently installed. Who knows, I may get surprised, and it lasts a while.

After repeatedly taking apart and re-oiling the original brushroll bushings in my vacuum, I swapped to this.
The original ran okay for a bit once oiled, but there was simply too much surface rust on the axle “rod” to keep things running smoothly for more than a month.
This is definitely an upgrade because it comes with the rubber end mounts, which prevent the brushroll from smacking around in the chassis if you hit something. It also feels like it is suspended by two sealed ball bearings, which have way less resistance.
If you have an older vacuum and you combine this brushroll upgrade with the 9.5 amp motor floating around on amazon, you can easily lift the carpet up with the increased suction and power. It will be a brand new machine at that point.

This thing made a night and day difference on our old commercial vacuum. My family runs a cleaning business and we have multiple vacuums from multiple brands. Our Eureka Sanitaire is one of my favorites, and one of the most reliable vacuums I have used. We have had to replace the belt multiple times over the many years we have had it but this past season the brush and roll finally started giving out.
I probably could have gotten away with just replacing the bristle strips, but after nearly a decade I decided to swap out the entire roll with new strips and all. After replacing the entire roll, the vacuum works like new. It still vacuums just as well as some of the newer units we have bought and even better than some. It has no problem vacuuming dirt, dust and even the especially nasty salt that is used in the winter for ice. This was a worthy investment and it will continue to make the vacuum work for many more years to come. Great product.
